The Transfer: A Divergent Story by Veronica Roth

The first of four new short stories told from the perspective of everyone's favorite Divergent love interest! More Four! Fans of the Divergent series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by "The Transfer," the first of four new short stories told from Four's perspective. Each brief story explores the world of the Divergent series through the eyes of the mysterious but charismatic Tobias Eaton, revealing previously unknown facets of his personality, backstory, and relationships. (from Goodreads)

Flo's Review
Short and sweet story, so short and sweet review. By "sweet" I mean awesome, not sweet as in "Awww..." Because Four had some rough breaks. I really did enjoy getting to see more of Four's past and explanations of things that are just mentioned in the Divergent trilogy. I have not read Allegiant yet, and this was a perfect little morsel to ready me for jumping back into this world.

A side perk of this story is that I kept seeing Theo James in my mind and that also made me super excited for the movie!

If you like the Divergent world, then this is definitely worth the read. I'm looking forward to the next one, The Initiate

CHARACTER BIO: HADES

Hades has been around for a long time. He's a major deity that rules a third of creation. His third is the Underworld, but that doesn't make him a bad guy. He cares very deeply about the residents of his realm and goes out of his way to make them comfortable. His advisors (mostly Cassandra)  routinely tease him about his collection of self-help and "psycho-babble" books. He's kind and fair to the gods in his realm, but  of course, he does have a dark side Needless to say, he's nothing like Persephone expected based on the myths.

Speaking of Persephone, he didn't kidnap her, he saved her from Boreas, and made it very clear she was free to come and go from the Underworld as she pleased, though leaving during the winter would probably be a bad idea. The longer the two get to know each other, the more Hades grows to care about Persephone, but those feelings leave him very conflicted. She's much younger than he is, and since he's saved her life a few times he worries that any move on his part would be taking advantage.

BLOG TOUR and INTERVIEW: The Guardians Blog Tour by TM Franklin - More (Book #1) and The Guardians (Book #2)

About MORE

Ava Michaels used to think she was special.

As a child, she fantasized about having magical powers . . . making things happen. But Ava grew up and eventually accepted the fact that her childish dreams were just that, and maybe a normal life wasn't so bad after all.

Now a young college student, Ava meets Caleb Foster, a brilliant and mysterious man who’s supposed to help her pass physics, but in reality has another mission in mind. What he shows Ava challenges her view of the world, shaking it to its very core.

Because Caleb isn't quite what he seems. In fact, he's not entirely human, and he's not the only one.

Together, the duo faces a threat from an ancient race bound to protect humans, but only after protecting their own secrets—secrets they fear Ava may expose. Fighting to survive, Ava soon learns she's not actually normal . . . she's not even just special.

She's a little bit more.

About The Guardians: Book Two in the MORE Trilogy
Coming November 7, 2013
Ava’s life is . . . complicated.
After all, it’s not every day a girl learns she’s not entirely human, or unlocks hidden powers strong enough to make even the First Race sit up and take notice. After surviving an attempted kidnapping and standing up to the Race’s Ruling Council, Ava Michaels returns to college and what she hopes is a normal life. But Ava quickly realizes that for her, normal may not even exist anymore.
In fact, the Council wants her under their control, and they’re not the only ones. The mysterious Rogues have a plan of their own, and it turns out Ava’s a big part of it, whether she wants to be or not.
On top of that, her new relationship is tested in ways she never expected. Her boyfriend, Caleb Foster, has disappeared—accused of betraying the Race—and Ava herself stands implicated in a crime she didn’t commit.
Clearing their names will mean uncovering a web of deceit and intrigue with Ava woven right in the center. To unravel the strands, she joins forces with some unlikely allies; a Protector who once haunted her nightmares, a young girl with secrets as unexpected as Ava’s, and a group of rebel Guardians who have their own fight against the Council.
Together they stand in a battle to find the truth, bring Caleb home, and secure Ava’s freedom—not to mention save her life.

Author Bio:

T.M. Franklin started out her career writing non-fiction in a television newsroom. Graduating with a B.A. in Communications specializing in broadcast journalism and production, she worked for nine years as a major market television news producer, and garnered two regional Emmy Awards, before she resigned to be a full-time mom and part-time freelance writer. After writing and unsuccessfully querying a novel that she now admits, “is not that great,” she decided to follow the advice of one of the agents who turned her down—write some more and get better at it. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days.

She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mike, is mom to two boys, Justin and Ryan, and has an enormous black dog named Rocky who’s always lying nearby while she’s writing. Whether he’s soothed by the clicking of the computer keys or just waiting for someone to rub his belly is up for debate.

In addition to MORE and The Guardians, Franklin penned the Amazon best-selling short story, Window, as well as another short story, A Piece of Cake, which appears in the Romantic Interludes anthology.

THE INTERVIEW

How long have you been writing?

Pretty much all of my life. I used to write stories and poems when I was little, and when I went to college, I studied journalism. I worked for nine years as a TV news producer, so wrote a lot during that time, but all non-fiction. It wasn’t until I left that job that I really tried to write a novel and it was really piecemeal, a little here, a little there. I started writing with a bit more determination in 2008.

What made you write this book?

I’d been writing online fan fiction to kind of hone my skills and explore different kinds of writing, but after a while found it a bit restricting. I wanted to stretch my wings a bit and create my own characters and my own world. I enjoy reading books that have a bit of the supernatural in them, so I knew I wanted to write something like that.
I thought about when you’re a kid, and you think, “Hey, I bet I could fly if I just tried hard enough.” Am I the only kid who fantasized about that kind of thing? Being able to move things with your mind, or turn invisible? Well, then I wondered, what if you were right? What if you could do amazing things like that and you just didn’t know it? That led to some other What Ifs – What if the Titans and the Nephilim and other creatures of legend weren’t a myth after all? What if they’re still around, but they stay out of sight unless they perceive someone as a threat? What if they find a girl with unusual abilities and see her as one of those threats?
All of that kind of swam around in my head for a while, until it eventually became MORE.

Who is your favorite character to write from your book?

In MORE, it was Ava. I loved getting to know her and seeing her evolve. She is a strong person, but not over-confident, and she deals with all the craziness life throws at her with a put-on-your-big-girl-panties and get the job done kind of attitude.
In The Guardians, I have to say I really enjoyed writing Tiernan. We don’t see a lot of him in MORE, and what we do see is kind of frightening, but in The Guardians, we learn a little more about what makes him tick, and the scenes with him and Ava were a lot of fun to write. They definitely like to push each other’s buttons.
I also like to write the mysterious bad guy (who has not yet been identified in the books.) It’s fun to get into his devious mind and share little bits and pieces of his evil plan. And a challenge not to expose him for who he is.

What did you love the most about this book?

I enjoyed taking what I learned from MORE and applying it to this book. I did get a bit of criticism from some reviewers that MORE starts off a little slow, and that’s true. I had a lot of back story to introduce and in hindsight, I probably could have done a better job of sprinkling that through the book.
In The Guardians, the back story is already established. We know the characters. So I could focus more on the action. I liked being able to do that, and I hope it means the book is faster-paced and more exciting than MORE.

What do you want your readers to know about this book, if the reader does know anything about this series?

Well, first of all, don’t read The Guardians until you’ve read MORE, because it will COMPLETELY spoil it for you! Beyond that, I’d say The Guardians is about a girl who’s discovering who she really is – and that person is pretty amazing. She also has a bigger part to play in the world than she ever thought possible—a part that could have far-reaching impact and affect even us here in the human world.  Superpowers, romance, adventure, running for your life, and a race to find the truth – that’s The Guardians in a nutshell.

My Review of book 1: Chasing Nikki

For this tour I decided to read book 1.

So here is how I thought about this book.....

First half, Typical love story:

Chase is typical teenage boy who is starting to show some of his wild, bad boy side. So, his mom sends him to his dad's to live

Nikki is a typical cheerleader. However, she doesn't really give Chase the time of day. At first ....

So, you can see where I'm going with this

Second half and ending of book, HOLY STARS!! OMG !!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???

I was about to get bored with this book when a MASSIVE (and I mean MASSIVE) twist hit this book.

Nikki and Chase begin a relationship, but there something happens. I really, really, really don't want to say BUT this is the first time I was thrown for a complete loop!!

I cried like a small child. I even had to put it down for an hour, to compose myself to finish!!

READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!! I will be reading book 2 ... soon!!!

About The Author-
Lacey Weatherford was born in Ft. Meade Maryland while her father was serving in the military. She has been a life long resident of Arizona, spending most of her time growing up in the small rural town of Clay Springs.

It was while she was attending the small country school in Clay Springs, that she read her first "big" book at the age of eight. It was a Nancy Drew novel and Lacey was instantly hooked. She read every book that she could find in the series and decided that she wanted to write stories too.

Lacey spent a lot of time at the library from that time forward, even volunteering in her later teen years and early twenties. She would don a crazy clown outfit for the Friends of the Library fundraisers in an effort to help get the new town library built.

When she and her husband moved away from the area, Lacey took the opportunity to take some creative writing classes at the local college to help further along her interests. Several years later, they were blessed with the opportunity to move back to Clay Springs with their family. The town had finally succeeded in building their library and Lacey had the opportunity to be President of the Friends of the Library for a very short time, before relocating.

Lacey and her family still live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she continues to write young adult novels that have a fantasy/fairytale or paranormal bent to them, as well as being sure to include a great romantic storyline!

Excerpt:

"Why do you care so much?" he asked, scooting the tray to the foot of the bed and moving closer to me.
My body reacted to his close proximity. "What makes you think I care?" I said breathlessly as he inched closer.
"I think you care a lot," he said, dropping his eyes to my mouth.
I swallowed hard as his mouth hovered close to mine. "Tell me you haven't been thinking about this," he said, stroking a thumb over my bottom lip.
"Have you?" I whispered.
"Jams, I've been thinking about this longer than I can remember," he said, crushing his lips to mine. His words rang through my head, but there was no way I could make sense of them when his lips felt so good. I responded with a small moan when his tongue trailed across the same spot where his thumb had been. My pleasure filled acceptance affected him and he dragged me into his arms, deepening the kiss. A shiver rippled down my body as our tongues found each other. I gripped the hem of his shirt, wanting him closer. Hearing my unspoken plea, he settled the upper half of his body on top of mine. I gasped with pleasure, running my fingers up under his shirt. I could feel the firmness of his muscles and smoothness of his skin. It was almost my undoing when I felt him tugging at my shirt moments before his hand glided over the sensitive skin of my ribcage. My blood roared through me. His hand moved farther up to my breasts and I bowed my body, whimpering against his lips. I wanted his touch everywhere on my body.
"Jams, you're seriously killing me," he said raggedly against my lips. He pulled back slightly.
"Is that good or bad?" I asked, running my hands up his torso. My fingers trailed to the small patch of hair that disappeared down his jeans. Ever since I'd seen him in nothing but his jockey shorts the other night, I've fantasized about that small trail of hair.
"So good it almost hurts," he said, leaning in for another kiss. Before his lips could reach their destination, a beeping noise from downstairs followed by the sound of voices in the hallway interrupted us. "Really?" he asked incredulously, climbing off the bed. I couldn't help giggling. Of course something was going on. With our luck lately, I could have almost set my watch by it.
