Goodreads description:
With a death starts a new beginning...
Eighteen-year-old Esmerelda thinks she’s just a normal girl, but all of that changes the day of her mom’s funeral, when a warlock, intent on using her special powers, kidnaps her. Powers she didn’t know existed. Thrown in the middle of a magical battle, Es struggles to learn her magic while fleeing both vampires and warlocks, at the same time, hunting for the witches that can help defeat her adversary. The only problem is that they are dead.
Thankfully, she has the help of Jarak—her Guardian—who quickly captures her heart, but she wonders if she can win his? Just when she thinks Jarak is the one for her, Ian appears with daggers drawn to save Es from a vampire attack. Ian is cocky and rude, but there is something magnetic about him—something that attracts her to him. With her heart torn between two men, she faces the foes that are out for her blood. Can Es do the unthinkable and awaken them from their graves before time runs out?
Mary's Review:
3.5 stars out of 5.0
I got this book because I saw everyone talking about it on Facebook. I figured "Why Not?". I went to Goodreads and read some really good reviews. I got excited about a love triangle, wolves and witches/warlocks. It sounded like a great book
Best part of the book: Esmerelda is 18 when her mother passes away. She is having a hard time with it and then she is kidnapped. She is transported to a whole different country where she learns who she really is. Enter Jarak....hello hottie! Jarak is actually Esmerelda's Guardian. There is a serious connection between them two and I love their interactions together. I think that they are both amazing characters. Also, I loved seeing Es coming into her own throughout the book.
Then Ian appears. I was a little unsure about Ian. He comes into the book very late. I wish he was in it more. Guess that is why there is a book 2.
I did love the action and the interactions with the characters.
Now so great about the book: Even though there was action in this book, there were some parts were I was just bored. There was too much filler and it was unneeded. Also, I wish Ian was in the book more. He came into the story very late and the "triangle" was there but it felt a bit rushed. On top of all that there is a lot of stories within this story and I had to read some parts again to make sure that I was understanding who-was-who and what their purposes were.
Nonetheless, I will read book 2!
