BLOG TOUR: Face the Music by Andrea K. Robbins

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Title: Face the Music
by: Andrea K. Robbins
Publication Date: 6/14/2012
Genre: Contemporary
Age Group: New Adult

BOOK BLURB:

After losing her mother in a tragic accident, Allison Banks takes on the sole responsibility of caring for her little sister, her young niece, and her disabled grandmother. When her long-term boyfriend walks out, offering little in the way of explanation, Allison is left totally confused and utterly heartbroken. To cope, the 24-year-old closes herself off to any serious relationships and dives into her work as a graduate student.

Needing the extra income, Allison takes a job for the hot, new, reality TV show, Superstardom. Captivated by the competition’s front-runner, the mysterious and sexy singer, Chris Knots, Allison dismisses her attraction as nothing more than a silly, school-girl crush. But, when the hunky performer reveals an interest of his own, Allison must work through her reservations and decide if there’s room in her life for something more.

MY REVIEW:

May just gush over this book?  What a fantastic read?  I was worried a little bit when I read the blurb because my first though was "Great an American Idol book" *eye roll*.  See, I don't watch American Idol, in fact, I don't want an reality TV and I was worried this was going to be like that.

Well, Andrea Robbins has the right to kick me in the shin because this book was nothing like that!  Allie is an amazing character.  Her mother dies from a car accident, her boyfriend pretty much leaves without her even knowing and she has her sister and niece.  Let us not forget that she is going to graduate school.  The girl works all the time!  Well, she becomes the teacher for the young starlets of the show Superstardom.  (it seems to be like American Idol, but different) It is there that Allie meets Chris Knots.

*insert swoon here*  Chris Knots.  His name just oozes sexiness. However, he is not the typical "rocker" that you would think of.  That is another reason why I enjoyed him!  You could tell how much he cared for Allie, right off.  However, Allie had a lot of "trust" issues.  I mean, who wouldn't, everyone she loved left her.  The only people she had was her sister and niece.

Throughout the book I felt bad for both Allie and Chris.  They were both misunderstood and cared for each other so much.  This was just a great book, all around!  Plus, there was GREAT music!!!

Everyone should read it!

BLOG TOUR: Of Gaea by Victoria Escobar

Of Gaea
Book #1 in the Of Legacies Series
By Victoria Escobar
Publication Date: March 20, 2013

Blurb-
Her choice will change the world.

She hated the wheelchair. Hated the way it made her feel less than what she was. Most of all she hated not being able to do all the things she used to. Ari had been a track and field star, an archery champion and an Eskrima pro. Now she was confined to a wheelchair slowly dying inside from its restraints.

Medical science wasn’t working. The tests, the drugs, the therapies were all useless and a waste of time. She was tired of wasting her time; she was tired of failure. It was time to look away from the obvious and try something unconventional.

Nothing was ever free and that included miracles. Abruptly, Ari finds herself tangled in a web of lies, questioning everything she’s ever known as truth. Never had she believed she’d be thrown headfirst into a world of good and evil, magic and Gods.

Trapped in the middle of a war she had never known existed both parties demanded her allegiance. Ari was a catalyst that could change all the rules of the Earth. But when the time comes to make a choice will she be strong enough to know right from wrong?

Excerpt-

When the sun was nearly gone Ari began to fidget. “You should turn a light on.”

“Afraid of the dark?”

“It’s not the dark I fear, but what resides in it.” Ari bit her lip as she scanned the growing shadows. “I’ve seen things in the shadows, things I’d rather not fall prey to.”

He didn’t laugh or jeer but slowly stood and walked over to the edge of the circle. From his pocket he lit a match and then dropped the lit match to something she couldn’t see.
A ring of fire rose from the ground and traced the circumference of the circle. When it touched itself it went out, but there was a light, that she couldn’t explain in its place. It wasn’t the red light of fire either, but a cool, almost clean feeling light.

“Our mother Gaea, this night we ask for protection, this night we ask for healing. This night we ask you bless the faithful with Your love.”

Ari could hear Leonidas’s prayer from where she sat, or rather, she felt it. The words weren’t quite right though. She didn’t hear them as he spoke them, but as a chorus of voices together as one. The voices chanted together and drowned out Leonidas’s words. Goosebumps broke out
along her arms.

As Leonidas shuffled back over Ari saw movement behind him. The darkness that she feared manifested along the edge of the circle. It had more form than it had previously. The demon horse was more pronounced in shape and larger than she remembered it being. There was with ooze streaming from its head and tail and dark rivulets of liquid streamed over
him that she could only envision as some form of acid.

The trees and plants seemed to shrink back away from it. Or at least that’s what she thought until the light creature joined it. Then she realized what the darkness killed the light was bringing back to life only for the vicious cycle to continue.

She was more shaped this time too. She looked like a white peacock with the train of light behind her wings and tail. Everything about her glowed and it was painful to look at her for too long.

“Can you see them?” Ari gestured to the edge of the circle.

Leonidas turned and even though Ari didn’t see his face she saw his posture still and harden. “You are not welcome here. Gaea walks here, not you. Be gone! You have no business here.”

“The child is our business.” The light creature danced up the wall searching for an entrance.

“Give her to us and we shall leave everything as it was found.” The dark thing wasn’t so subtle and struck the wall of light with its hooves.

Gaea walks here.” The Kirin appeared inside the circle. Her voice was a beautiful song. “Leave this place. Now.” She stamped her hoof once.

The other creatures only hissed at her. The Kirin reared backed and then charged. She rammed into both of them and all three vanished. Before their eyes the trees and plants sprung back to the way they had been only minutes before.

“Now I’ve officially seen everything.” Leonidas muttered. “How often do you see them?”

Ari laughed weakly. “Do nightmares count?”

Leonidas bent down to look in her eyes. “Nightmares always
count.”

Release Day Launch and Giveaway: Picture Perfect by Alessandra Thomas

Synopsis:

Fashion design major Cat Mitchell has a closet full of gorgeous clothes - and not a single thing fits. After two years of runway modeling for easy cash, an accident shattered her lower leg bone and her self-esteem in just one swift fall. Ten months of no exercise, prescription steroids, comfort eating and yoga pants meant returning to campus as a size twelve instead of her former size two. When her gorgeous long-time friend with benefits sees her for the first time after her accident and snubs her in front of all her friends, Cat’s self-image hits rock bottom. Her sorority sisters all insist that she looks gorgeous, but all Cat sees is the roll of her stomach when she sits down, or the dimpling at the back of her thighs that wasn't there last year. Cat’s therapist prescribes something radical to stop the downward spiral - nude modeling for a nearby college's human form drawing classes. When Cat faces her fears and bares it all for the class, she realizes that she's posing naked in front the most gorgeous, buffest guy she's ever seen in her life. He asks her out after the class, and after one steamy night together, Cat's absolutely smitten.

Nate’s pretty close to perfect – he takes Cat rock climbing when he discovers that it makes her feel strong and becomes a great chef after he learns that the perfect pesto sauce makes her swoon. Cat starts to feel like her old self again - confident and beautiful - as long as Nate's around. Even when he discourages her from entering the Real Woman Project, a design competition for plus-sized apparel, she reasons that he's just trying to prevent old body image wounds from splitting wide open again. But when Cat goes home with Nate for Thanksgiving, she discovers something shocking from his recent past that proves that he hasn’t always been so encouraging of women of all shapes and sizes. Cat has no idea what to think, but she does know one thing - this might destroy their relationship before it's even had a chance to get off the ground.

Before Cat can figure out whether the real Nate is the sensitive, adoring guy she fell in love with, or an undercover asshole, she'll have to finally feel comfortable in her own skin - even if it means leaving him forever.
My Review:
Love, Love this story.  I read it in one sitting.  I could not put it down.  Cat was this young, thin and had it all, or so she thought.  After an accident, she had to have surgery on her leg and ended up gaining weight because she was not as mobile as before.  So, after some surgeries and rehab, Cat heads back to school.  The problem is, she is not a size 2 anymore.  It is different for her.  Her whole world is different.
After a string of events, she ends up posing nude for an art class.  There is Nate. *insert swoon here* He is just the perfect looking guy.  Cat is completely floored when he wants to take her out.  I loved their rock climbing date, loved that he cooked for her and I loved seeing Cat get her confidence back.
However, like all good books there is a twist and this one I did not see!  Shocked!  Really!
All in all this is a great story and I would recommend it to others

THE COVER:

Friday Fives: The Top 5 Authors Who Influence You

Hey, I actually came up with this weeks Friday's Five! Crazy right!?!?!?!  Usually Jacque and Teri are way better at it!!!  But, I thought about it and this just seemed like a good topic.  The problem was I have more than 5 ... so, let's see how this goes ....

1.  Shelly Crane.  This author will forever be the picture perfect author in my life.  Am I putting her above everyone else?? Oh YES I AM!!! If you read just one of her books, you can see/feel her talent, the love for her characters and overall niceness ooze onto the pages.  Shelly has become a friend of mine (and of this site), but I put her above all others because .... well, she is it!  Look it up, she is the author that authors want to be.  She writes book after book, each different and unique, and does it with class!  Recently her book, Significance, will soon be made into a movie (yes, I died when I heard that).  Overall, she is it! Period!

2. Rachel Higginson.  What?!?! You think I forgot about Rachel!!! NEVER!! Now, I can go on and on about Kiran ... I mean....Rachel's books, but I am not going to.  Anyone who has every read any of my reviews (or anything on this site) knows why Rachel is important in my life.  Yes, I joke around about Kiran (who is my fictional boyfriend from her Star Crossed Series) but the truth is Rachel has done something no author has ever done to me.  Yep, she made me love a character, hate that same character and then fall back in love with that character.  On top of that, she is the reason my Kindle is cracked in the corner.  Let's just say theses two words... HOPELESS MAGIC!  (read it and you will understand)

3.  Tiffany King.  Here is how I describe Tiffany .... HEART OF GOLD!  The woman is the sweetest, most caring and kind person I KNOW! Her book, Wishing For Someday Soon, is my autobiography (and she doesn't even know me).  I cried so much with that book that I had a headache for days!  That is true talent! And just when I thought she could not top it she wrote, Miss Me Not.  To this day I cannot describe that book because no words due it justice.  That is an author!!

4.  Lila Felix.  Lila is new in my Book Nerd life.  Even though she has several books under her belt she has done something through her books that I did not believe was possible.  She taught to see mohawks, tattoos/piercings and people who wear them in a different light.  NO I am not a person to make fun or be mean to someone who has a different appearance than mine.  However, she taught me to look pass that and she did that through her books: Love and Skate and How It Rolls.  I live in a diverse area and have recently visited some "punk-rock" bars and learn a lot about the community.  Yep, even made some new friends.  Oh, and I am getting my first tattoo next month! But, I still refuse to dye my hair!  I wouldn't look good in blue! (just saying).  That is all because of Lila!

5.  Quinn Lofits.  I cannot form words that does Quinn any justice.  So, I will say this ... DECEBEL!  That is it!  That is all needs to be said.  Well, maybe I can say a few more.  Quinn has a few qualities that make her stand out in my Book Nerd Life.  She writes the funniest character, Jennifer.  She is the QUEEN OF CLIFFHANGERS! Lastly,  her talent is endless!

So, there is only to be 5, but lets do some more:

Honorable Mentions

-   Bailey Aridsone.  This is a sister - duo writing team and they are new to the Indie community, but they  still have influenced my Book Nerd life.  Their debut novel, Sweet Oblivion, is amazing.  It is a twist of two worlds and it is perfection.  On top of that, they are the kindest ladies, EVER!  I also picked them because I how a special place in their lives.  Why, you ask?  Well, I am there #1 fan.  I was the first to read and review their book! That is an honor I treasure.

-   Tabatha Vargo.  Tabatha has a serious pallet of talent.  YA, NA, paranormal, the lady is everywhere and is perfect at it!  Above all, her love for her fans is beyond measure.  She is so sweet and it comes across on the page and through her characters.  Be sure to watch her closely, she will BE THE NEXT HOUSEHOLD NAME!

-   Jessica Jaster.  You just read that I called Quinn Loftis the QUEEN OF CLIFFHANGERS, well meet Jessica Jaster, the PRINCESS OF CLIFFHANGERS.  She does the same thing Quinn does. She pulls you in and then just puts up a brick wall.  I read her first book Delta Project: Hide and died at the ending.  So, when I got an ARC of Delta Project: Rescue I did not think she would do it to  me again.  Oh, well SHE DID! Mad is the best way to describe my emotions at that very last line.  That is why she is so amazing!! Because she can do that!

BOOK REVIEW: Cinderella in Skates by Carly Syms

Goodreads description:

Natalie Melter hates that her family made her leave sunny Arizona to move to Wisconsin but she’s even more upset that her dad, a former hockey player, tells her that she can move back to Arizona in the summer only if she makes her school's hockey team.

Natalie doesn't know the first thing about standing up on a pair of ice skates, but life in snowy Wisconsin is about to get a whole lot more interesting when the cute college hockey player next door decides to teach her the sport he loves.

Will Natalie put it together in time to make the team or will Shane be a distraction she can’t ignore?

Mary's Review:

I love when Amazon sends me recommendations.  They sent me this book.  I was totally in when it said "Cinderella" and "hockey".  Come on, you all know I am sucker for hockey players!

Best part of the book: What a cute story?!? It was all around a good story.  Loved Natalie, she was so sweet but did not want to live in Wisconsin.  She spent her life in Arizona and that was where she wanted to go back.  Well, Natalie's father (a former college hockey player) made he a deal: she makes the high school hockey team, then she can go back to Arizona early.  There is one problem: Natalie doesn't know hockey, at all.  Enter: Shane!  (hello hot college boy!!!) Shane's dad and Natalie's dad were friends in college and played hockey.  Shane took after his dad and is a great college hockey player.  So, he agrees to coach Natalie.  Well, one thing leads to another and then .....well...........there is sledding, skiing and other great events!

Not so great about the book: It was a little bit predicable, but it was still a good story!

If you want a sweet romance ---- this is it

BOOK REVIEW: Hooking Up by Jessica L. Degarmo

Goodreads description:

Would you go out to a bar and pick up any random handsome man to spend the night with to mute the heartbreak of your long-term lover - your rock - walking out on you?

Caitlin Edison was so badly hurt by her boyfriend of ten years leaving her that she no longer wanted love, she wanted a cure for love.

After several drinks, one of her best friends suggested she indulge in a one-night stand, a mindless night of fun with absolutely no consequences, to help her heal.

At first, Caitlin scoffed at the idea, but the idea niggled at her and one reckless night, she plucked up all her courage and actually followed through.

There was only one problem - how did Caitlin end up with the one guy in town who wanted more than a one-night stand?

'Hooking Up' is romance at its best – exhilarating, surprising, passionate, witty, moving, enraging, frustrating, sly, worldly and wise.

When Caitlin gets the ride of her life, so will you. Hook up with 'Hooking Up', place yourself in the safest of hands and let yourself go

MARY'S REVIEW:

I was given this book for a review.

I like this book, but I did not love this book.  I liked the overall concept of the book.  However, the story seemed rushed at times and the dragged in others. However, there were some really good twist and turns in it and that is why I kept reading.

The story starts out with Caitlin's long term boyfriend moving out.  Her girlfriends talk her into "hooking up" with a random guy.  They read it in a magazine and thought it would help her.   She ends up "hooking up" with Ryan, a local police officer.

Ryan, on the other hand, is not looking for a "hook-up", he actually like Caitlin.  So, the story progresses, but Caitlin keeps trying to push Ryan away.  However, Ryan keeps pursuing her.  She finally realizes how much she does like him and this is where all the "rushed" parts come in.

There is are twist and turns and it was good book.  If you like a sweet romance then this is for you .

BLOG TOUR AND GIVEAWAY: Fate and Fury by Quinn Loftis

Today's stop is a special one for me! Because today I have an amazing interview with the love of my life, Decebel!!

HE IS MINE!! I don't care what y'all say!!  I just "let" Jennifer have him ... until she comes after me.  Then I will get my running shoes on and go!

INTERVIEW:

Ok, Decebel I know that I don’t have much time before Jennifer pops back in here; however, do you think there is any chance that you would run away with me?

Dec: *chuckles*

*sad face* Well, that wasn't a "no" but, I guess since you love Jennifer so much I should honor that, BUT you are still a hot wolf!!

Now, that I have all of that out of the way I will go on with the interview……….

So much has happened since the first time you graced my life… I mean, since you were introduced to us…what is the one memory that stands out the best for you?

Dec: I think the moment that stands out the most to me is when I made Jennifer my wife.

Since Jennifer and you have been together (and I can never be with you) what has she taught you?  Besides sarcasm and modern slang……

Dec: *secret smile lights up his face* She’s taught me how to enjoy every day and to laugh at myself. Of course she’s going to laugh at me any ways so she has so sweetly informed me I might as well laugh along.

Being an Alpha is something many will never achieve, what is your greatest accomplishment?

Dec: Being a mate, and now soon, a father.

What is it like have such a close knit pack?  Even though (now) you are not with Vasile “pack”.  Does it feel like family or just friends?

Dec: Pack is family, regardless of the size there is always a sense of closeness in a pack that humans cannot understand. There is a loyalty to one another that goes beyond just friendship.

Quinn seems to kill us (well, at least me) with her cliffhangers and amazing story telling, but is there anything that you would change?

Dec: I would prefer my mate be safe at all times…but then Jennifer would rather keep the danger from others so it would be impossible to keep her safe.

I know how hard it was for you to be in the In-Between, but do you think you can come out stronger from this situation?

Dec: Yes, I think that any situation that doesn’t break you, builds you. I will survive the In-Between, all of us will and we will destroy the one who put us there.

Here is my last question, because I know Jennifer is coming back, do you think that you can change fate or is already planned for you?

Dec: *slow wicked smile* Fate has never come face to face with one such as I.

*insert my SWOON here*  I just love ya Decebel!!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The last few days have been the darkest of Sally’s life.  After experiencing the joy of finding her mate, she now suffers the pain of losing everything she holds dear. Both the Romanian and Serbian packs have been captured, ripping Sally’s soul mate away from her almost as soon as she had found him. Her best friend and the emotional glue that usually holds Sally together, Jacque Pierce, lies writhing in a restless coma, having been put down by Desdemona’s dark magic. Jennifer Adams, the unshakable one, has revealed to her friends and her mate that she is pregnant, but the Fates have marked her unborn baby for death.  Though she rails against the darkness, deep inside Jen knows that Decebel’s baby must die as payment for her own life, and the knowledge is tearing her soul to pieces. Cypher, King of the Warlocks, has claimed Jacque’s mother as his mate and agreed to help Desdemona open a door that would release a horde of demons from beyond the Veil.
Though her world is crashing down around her, Sally holds out hope.  The Great Luna is not sitting idly by.  She has commanded the Fey council to call upon the packs—all of them.  And though Cypher looks for a way to open the Veil for Desdemona, he struggles to protect Lilly and the wolves at the same time.  Peri, the ever-courageous High Fae, and a contingent of the remaining females of the Romanian and Serbian packs, push on through the rough Carpathian Mountains. Though they are bound to the human realm, they continue to search for a way to cross over to the land of the Fey. Meanwhile, in reluctant obedience to the Great Luna, the Fey council sends representatives to the far corners of the globe, meeting with the pack Alphas.  The Fey must convince the Alphas of every pack to lay aside their petty territorial squabbles and battles of dominance. If they refuse, both the humans and the supernatural races will fall at Mona’s feet.
Sally holds to a shred of hope. Though Vasile, Decebel, and their pack mates endure the torture of the In-Between, living their worst nightmares over and over, Sally holds. Though she knows that it is only a matter of time before their wolves take over, she holds. Sally knows that if the males die, then so too will their mates who have performed the Blood Rites, including her best friends Jen and Jacque.  Yet she holds. If the males lose themselves to their wolves and turn feral, so too do their mates.  Still she holds. Though Vasile, the strongest Alpha in their history to unite the wolves, is lost beyond the Veil, Sally holds.  Though Decebel, the only other wolf besides Vaile strong enough to unite the packs, suffers beyond the Veil, Sally will hold.  No one is left to unite their race, and defeat Desdemona. Yet Sally still holds.  She holds out hope that the Great Luna will not abandon them, cannot abandon them.  Throughout the centuries, the Great Luna has always provided a gypsy healer to the packs, especially in times of great need. Now Sally is that healer. Sally fears what role she has to play in the defeat of Desdemona, but she will play it.  Though heaven and hell unite against her, she WILL play it.
For too long the supernatural races have lived in separation, warring amongst themselves, allowing trivial power plays and selfish disputes to keep them from uniting. That separation has made them weak. Now, being summoned as a collective force to the same land, will they come?  Will they come in numbers greater than have been seen in centuries? Will they destroy each other and save Mona the trouble, or will they finally unite and fight as one?
