BOOK REVIEW : SUNNY SIDE UP BY KATIE STURINO

GOODREADS SUMMARY:

Sunny Greene is thirty-five, recently divorced, facing the looming prospect of going solo to her little brother’s wedding, and currently trying to find anything plus-sized in the Bergdorf Goodman swimsuit department that doesn’t make her want to cry. It’s not going well. But isn’t rock bottom the perfect place to start a climb?

She decides it’s now or never. Sunny has her PR empire, her gorgeous Chelsea apartment, her two dogs, and her loyal best friends. Of course things are never straightforward in the dating world. TEE'S THOUGHTS:

I actually went through several times of not wanting to turn off my audio and go to bed while listening to the new book Sunny Side Up by Katie Sturino, it was just so cute and fun, that it was one of those books that you read and just want to keep on so you know what happens next.

I have never read a book by Katie Sturino, and Sunny Side Up certainly has made me a fan of hers. She has written a story that has romance, I mean the whole debate on Mr Postman vs The Silver Fox was relatable. Most of us at one time or another have had two guys we just couldn't decide which one was the best for us, because they both seemed great. It was also a story that was empowering, Sunny was successful , smart, and living her best life in NYC. She was positive about her weight, and much of her story taught us to embrace our bodies and our choices.

I liked Sonny, but many times I did not relate to her choices or attitude. I struggle with my body image and am not as accepting of it as she is, and I was not in my younger years as free with sex as she was, especially how comfortable she was with it, but I still enjoyed her and related to her throughout the book on other things.

I really enjoyed Mr. Postman ( yes he has a real name ). He was one of the most human characters I have read in a while. He was not perfect, he was color blind and made questionable fashion choices. He seemed almost awkward and nerdy to me, and honestly I think this is why I loved him even more. He felt real. Also, if you happen to be listening to this book, the narrator did a wonderfully funny thick New York Accent with him, that makes it worth the listen.

Yes, of course, there were things that were not perfect with the story, isn't there always? Sunny seemed to get everything she wanted without much work, it felt to perfectly aligned, but I was able to overlook the few things because of the fun I found in the book. It's fiction, we don't have to have everything a life struggle for the characters do we? I think for me, I need to let go and suspend reality for a bit while I read ad just enjoy. ( THIS is why I am not a good fantasy reader. I struggle with that )

This is the perfect poolside/beach read. Quick, enjoyable and will make you laugh!

Book Review: Snowed In by Catherine Walsh

GOODREADS SUMMARY:

Megan is dreading going home for the holidays. She’s the village pariah, the she-devil who left local golden boy Isaac at the altar four years ago and ran away to the big city. She could really do without the drama. Particularly as he’s engaged again, and she’s just been dumped for the fourth time this year.

Christian’s fed up of being on his own every Christmas. He doesn’t mind being alone, but he hates his family’s sad eyes and soft tones as they sit around coupled up. Because he’s actually, totally, fine.

So when Megan literally bumps into Christian in a Dublin pub, they come up with a pact to see them through the holiday season. They’re going to be the very best fake dates for each other, ever.

Rules are drawn up, and a contract is signed on a wine-stained napkin. They will sit through each other’s family gatherings and be outrageously in love until freed from their annual obligations. After all, it’s only for a few weeks.

But with everyone home for the holidays, and two big families to deal with alongside old friends, old flames, and old feelings, things are bound to get messy. And when a snowed-in cabin and a little Christmas magic are added to the mix, anything could happen…

TEE'S REVIEW:

Joy to the book world!!! A new holiday romance is hitting the store shelves or on your Kindle, and it's a fake dating trope...one of my favorites!

In Snowed In by Catherine Walsh, main character Megan last saw Christian out side the church that she was running out of on her way to becoming a runaway bride. Fast forward five years and they run into each other- literally - at a bar. While talking they realize that they both are having to go home for the holidays, and are dreading it, so they devise a plan to go together as a fake couple.

I could end this quickly by telling you I am a very slow reader and tore through this in two days...so I loved it! It was so cute and heartwarming, just like a holiday romance should be.

I loved both Megan and Christian as characters, and when I read Megans POV I found myself always smiling, she was just so filled with positivity all the way through the book.

I also had no idea this was in a series of books, infact I didn't find out until after I read it, so no worries if like me, you haven't read Holiday Romance, you don't need to read it...but you certainly will want to.

The thing I REALLY liked about this book, well....besides it being set during the holidays, and the whole fake dating thing, and the snuggly cozy feeling of the entire book, was that Christian had his own POV. It is always refreshing to get the male side of a love story.

I am calling it now...Snowed In is my favorite holiday romance of 2023, so pick it up and lets talk!

BOOK REVIEWS: BOOK LOVERS BY EMILY HENRY

GOOD READS SUMMARY:

Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small-town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.

If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

TEE'S THOUGHTS:

I really enjoyed Beach Reads by Emily Henry and People We Met On Vacation was just a bit ehh for me, so admittedly I was a bit skeptical going into this one, but Emily Henry managed to win me over again with her new book Book Lovers. In fact, of the three I would have to say that Book Lovers is probably her best.

Henry lured me in with loads of banter and enjoyable characters. I really liked both Nora and Charlie, both were snarky and I love snarky! I also really enjoyed Nora's sister Libby, she was a wonderful secondary character. Charlie was a great guy and very likable. Many times in the enemies to lovers trope the men, are usually asses. I guess you need a reason for them to be enemies! Nora felt relatable, not perfect, but very driven in her career as a literary agent. I will give Emily Henry big props in her writing of characters, she makes them relatable, even if the book isn't to your liking.

Book Lovers was a refreshing and quick read. There are some slightly steamy scenes and Charlie and Nora had good chemistry, plus the ending was cute. Pick this one up if you need a cute sweet Rom-Com to get you out of a reading slump or if you just need a break from something a bit more serious.
