Flo's Review
I had a whirlwind relationship with the Slammed trilogy. I immediately fell in love with Slammed when I read it on a flight home, and I immediately checked out Point of Retreat from the library. I got through that in about 24 hours and read This Girl in the span of one evening.

Simply, This Girl is the retelling of the Slammed from Will's point of view. I enjoyed it. It was nice to see the relationship between Julia and Will, which was unbeknownst to Lake. I also really liked knowing Will's thoughts on the unfolding events. We knew a lot from Slammed because he was always good about talking to Lake, but this book gave us more. Also, from a literary standpoint, I liked how the retelling was set in their honeymoon, as it allowed for Will and Lake to really get everything out on the table before starting their life together. This a cute, fast read and quite enjoyable if you enjoyed Slammed.

That being said, Slammed is still my favorite of the three by far. That book blew me away, while the Point of Retreat and This Girl were just entertaining. Maybe because Slammed had the most poetry? I think that's one reason. Anyway, I love these characters, but it is definitely time to let them go.

I admit it. I am sooo late to the party. Mary reviewed this book when it first came out, and I downloaded it onto my Kindle a long time ago, but it's just been sitting there. Then comes last weekend when I decide I no longer like the current book I'm reading and I need something else. I opened Slammed, and OMG! I have a new fictional boyfriend and his name is Will Cooper!! From the beginning when Lake was swooning over him because he was hot and liked poetry I WAS TOO!! This book was so near perfection. The last scene at the club was absolute perfection. And there are so many great quotes in this book! Look:

Seriously, though. The story pacing was on key, I laughed, I cried, I disliked the "bad" guy, I cheered for love to conquer all, I reflected on the reality of life, and I read some really great good poetry. 5 out of 5 enthusiastic stars for this one!

REVIEW:

To much surprise, from others, I actual know what Slam Poetry is. Not that I am a poet. However, this book is SO MUCH MORE!

First, I need to that @LuvMyHootie, @JennNun, and @AuthShellyCrane for this recommendation. These ladies have truly turned me on to some amazing books lately!

I actually can relate to Layken more than what you think. My father died while I was still in school, then my mother moved me to another state, and shortly after that my mother got sick. This is similar to Layken's story. The difference is I did not have a Will Cooper (boy, I wish I did!).

Throughout this story I can relate to Layken so much and that is one reason why I feel in love with it. The other reason I feel in love with it was because of Will. Through all their trials to be together he was always there for her no matter what. I love how Colleen Hoover entwined poetry, truths, happiness, and pain throughout the book and brought it to live with Will and Layken.

I cried a lot through this book, mainly because I understood Layken's pain; however, Colleen Hoover is such a talented author that you truly feel the pain and happiness with the characters. I wanted to keep reading because I was hoping for the "happy ending".

I will not spoil it for you but Layken and Will go through some series struggles that no young person should go through.

However, you cannot "carve pumpkins" forever. (read the story to understand that meaning!)

I would recommend this book for everyone to read!!
