Candace Bushnell Author Event

I'm obsessed with Sex and the City.

The fashion. The hot men. And most importantly, the relationship between the four girlfriends.  When one of the Blockbusters near me closed, I was able to buy almost every single DVD from the HBO series. And when I heard that Candace Bushnell, author of the Sex and the City book that inspired the TV show, was coming to my area, I simply had to go.

Candace did not disappoint. First of all, she looked great! All the way down to her shoes. I tried to get a picture of them, but it's a little fuzzy.

She took the podium with a glass of wine, which she held up and proclaimed, "I hope I'm not the only one with a glass of wine!" She wasn't, thanks to Books and Books, the wonderful event hosts who were giving out glasses to anyone interested. Which was a lot of people. Myself included.

Summer and the City is Candace's new book, which chronicles Carrie Bradshaw's first summer in New York City and the beginning of her friendships with Samantha Jones and Miranda Hobbes. Candace read from the first chapter of the book, and I loved her energy. She was very animated and even told us she would attempt to do the different voices. I could absolutely see Carrie and Samantha through the words and presentation of what Candace read.

Afterward the reading she answered a few questions. Her favorite episode of the TV show is the pilot: "Basically every line came straight from the book," she explained. She also enjoyed the episode in Season Three where the girls take a trip to Staten Island. (That WAS a good one!)

The name Carrie Bradshaw "just came to me like a lightning bolt from out of the blue and took on a life of its own," she explains. And to the infamous question, "Which character do you most relate to?" Candance answers, "I am Carrie."

Hey, I'm a Carrie, too!

Let us know in the comments if you're a Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte or Samantha. Click here to take the quiz on the Summer and the City Facebook page if you're not sure.

  2. I took the quiz, and my result was Miranda. Not sure how I feel about that, but the description of her characteristics sounded about right.
