8 Days of Hanukkah: Day 6

To celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah, the four book nerds will each select an author or book series that is meaningful to us to share with all of you.

Shelly Crane.  Need I say more!!?? This woman has talent, a gift for writing and is a remarkable person and author.  I have loved everything that she has written, but one serious stands out further than the rest.  That series is the Significance series.

I don't think I can express how much I love this series!  I am captivated by every word and I love the character more than words.

Another thing that I love about this series is that it is currently being turned into a movie.  That is correct: A  MOVIE!! Just last night the teaser trailer was released.  You can view it here:

I cannot wait for this movie and I cannot wait to see what Shelly Crane creates next.

If you want to purchase the first book of the Significance series you can here:

8 Days of Hanukkah: Day 5

To celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah, the four book nerds will each select an author or book series that is meaningful to us to share with all of you.

Geesh! This was so HARD for me! I am a lover of series books! However, I was about to narrow it down to Rachel Higginson!

She is the author of my favorite series The Star Crossed Series. This series is amazing, outstanding and the most intense that I have read! The reason I said this is because of how she writes.  She makes you feel like you are right there with the characters fighting and feeling it all!!

Plus (and I will say it again and again) she is the ONLY AUTHOR to make me fall in love with a character, then hate that same character and then fall right back in love with them!!  PURE TALENT!

Currently the first book of the series, Reckless Magic, is free.  Click the image below to get it:

You will love it as much as I do!!

Happy Reading and Happy Hanukkah (to those that celebrate)!!

8 Days of Hanukkah: Day 4

To celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah, the four book nerds will each select an author or book series that is meaningful to us to share with all of you.

Today I'm going to talk about a book series that was meaningful for me in 2012. And the lucky series is....

MAXIMUM RIDE BY JAMES PATTERSON

The beloved 8-book Maximum Ride series came to end this August, with the final book, Nevermore. To give you a sense of how much I loved this series, I consulted my Goodreads to see when I'd read them:

#1 The Angel Experiment: Review posted September 14, 2011
#2 School's Out...Forever: Read from September 26 to 28, 2011
#3 Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports: Read from November 5 to 9, 2011
#4: The Final Warning: Read from November 9 to 13, 2011
#5: Max: Read from November 13 to 17, 2011
#6: Fang: Read from November 17 to 22, 2011
#7: Angel: Read from December 4 to 14, 2011
#8 Nevermore: Read August 2012

So, basically, I just flew through these eight books like it was nothing! I was satisfied with Nevermore: sad to see the series end, but at the same time, I was ready for it. It would have felt like it was dragging for no reason had it kept going.

Some final thoughts on the Maximum Ride series...

1. Favorite book in the series: Fang, hands down. It had surprise, heartbreak, non-stop action...LOVED it!
2. Going back and reading all my reviews, I just noticed that my opinion totally changed on the love story from book 1 to book 8.
3. Shortly after finishing Nevermore, I got the chance to see James Patterson speak. If I could do it again, I would have brought my copy of Fang to the event and stood in line -- no matter how long it was! -- to have him sign it.

Have you read this series? What do you think of it?

8 Days of Hanukkah: Day 3

To celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah, the four book nerds will each select an author or book series that is meaningful to us to share with all of you.

Today I am going to talk briefly about an AMAZING author who I just discovered in 2012...

JOHN GREEN!

My love of John Green started in March with The Fault in Our Stars. This was a GREAT place to start as TFiOS was named the BEST NOVEL OF 2012 by Time magazine! That is a HUGE honor, and 100% deserved!

After falling into that amazingness, I vowed to read every John Green book ever written. This led me to Paper Towns. Again, just click on the link to read my gushing review. Next up: Will Grayson, Will Grayson, with David Levithan. More gushing.

I then picked up An Abundance of Katherines. This was the first book of John's that I was just kind of like, "Ehh..." But I'm not discouraged. Most of my favorite authors have penned one book I didn't really care for (perfect examples are Sophie Kinsella and Rick Riordan. With both of them, I love everything they've written, except one book I don't care for. But that's another post for another time.)

In 2013, I must read Looking for Alaska, as that is one of John's most famous, award-winning books.

Three final things about John Green:

1. He lives in Indianapolis. My sister lives in Indianapolis. (...I'm just saying...)
2. My local Target had one random signed copy of TFiOS that I debated buying, but ended up not. Needless to say, I am still kicking myself for that one.
3. If I had to choose a favorite of the three of his books I've read...no. I can't. I love them all!

Have you read any John Green books? Which one is your favorite?

8 Days of Hanukkah: Day 2

My favorite book series of 2012 is the Mara Dyer Series by Michelle Hodkin.  I read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer shortly before the release of The Evolution of Mara Dyer.  I LOVED both of these books.  For my complete reviews...click on the links.

I was SOOOO over the top excited about the release of the second book that Book Nerd Flo picked up the following for me at a release party near Miami.

You can't comprehend how happy this made me.

So....what makes this series GREAT?  This question can be answered with two words.  NOAH SHAW.  I did a Book Nerds Fictional Boyfriend post about him, which you can find at this link.

If you haven't read this series, you should rush to your local book store, library, eReader, etc. and get these books STAT.

8 Days of Hanukkah : Day 1

To celebrate the 8 days of Hanukkah, the four book nerds will each select an author or book series that is meaningful to us to share with all of you.

My first selection is Katie Kacvinsky.  She is the author of the Awaken series.  Middle Ground, the second book in the trilogy, was released in November 2012.  This series is about Justin and Maddie, who are the leaders of a rebel group determined to "unplug" their society, which has been taken over by the digital world.  People no longer interact face to face and everything is designed for speed and convenience.  Trees are plastic because they take too long to grow, food consists of pre-packaged bars that contain all of the necessary nutrients, and school is 100% digital.  Justin and Maddie want nothing more than for people to have the choice to live a life outside of their computer screens.  The series is action packed, thought provoking, and even contains some romance.  There is a little of something for everyone.

Katie is also the author of First Comes Love and Second Chance.  The final book in this series, Finally Forever, will be released next fall.  This is an EXCEPTIONAL love story that develops under the most unexpected of conditions.  The two main characters, Dylan and Gray, are complete opposites, but they bring out the best in each other.  Their is nothing predictable about this series, which I have enjoyed immensely.  I would HIGHLY recommend reading both of these books if you have not already done so.  Everyone I have recommended it to has LOVED it.
