The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst

"A marriage in name only...
To save her family home, impulsive bookstore owner, Alexa Maria McKenzie, casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend's older brother—the powerful man who once shattered her heart. Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn’t believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father’s corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister’s childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he offers Alexa a bold proposition. A marriage in name only with certain rules: avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year so the rules shouldn’t be that hard to follow, right?
Except fate has a way of upsetting the best-laid plans…" (from Goodreads)

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book quite awhile back from the publisher; however, I did not get a chance to read it until recently. As usual, I was traveling and it was conveniently on my Kindle, so I decided to give it a try.

Glad I did! This was a cute little story. I enjoyed it in the way that I enjoy romantic comedy movies -- you know how it is going to end, but it's still a lot of fun to get there. Both of the main characters had to go through transformation in order to let themselves fall in love with each other, and my favorite part was seeing the Nicholas Ryan arc. The ending? Cutest thing ever!

Lo and behold, The Marriage Bargain was just the first in a series -- I am definitely curious to see how Maggie and Michael's story unfolds in The Marriage Trap!

  1. Sounds cute! Was this a short read? Looking for something short and sweet! I don't have much time to read anymore and I miss it =( I hate starting long books when I know I'll just have to stop before finished.

  2. I know what you mean! I really like the idea of a short and good read that I can enjoy fully in a small amount of time, where I know I won't have to leave it for days and days at a time and thus be reading it forever! (Like that sentence, which was a run on and forever long!)

To answer your question: yes, it's short and sweet :)
