Sweet by Tammara Webber

Sweet (Contours of the Heart, #3)

Jacque's Review:

I would like to thank Tammara for providing a review copy of Sweet in exchange for an honest review.  I have been a fan of hers since I had the pleasure of reading Easy a few years ago.  I have recommended her books to countless friends, but I should warn the younger readers that this is a New Adult series.  There is adult language and content that is not appropriate for all ages.

Sweet is the third book in the Contours of the Heart series, but each book can be enjoyed separately.  They are all stand-alone novels focusing on a different character.  For those of you who have read Easy and Breakable, Lucas and Jacqueline do make an appearance in this book, but it is very brief.  This is by no means a continuation of their story.

Tammara changed things up a little with this book and used dual narrative instead of just one character's point of view.  Boyce Wynn is Lucas's best friend from high school.  At the age of seven he saved the life of a younger girl who was drowning.  That girl was Pearl Frank, the step-daughter of a local surgeon.  He has been in love with her since the day he pulled her out of the ocean, but he never felt like he was good enough for her.  He grew up with an abusive father who owns the local auto repair shop.

Pearl has been attracted to Boyce since she awoke from her near death.  She went on to become her class valedictorian and was accepted into several medical schools, but she decides to return to her hometown to pursue a graduate degree in marine biology.  Boyce and Pearl have been close friends over the years, but neither of them believed the other was interested in a relationship.  They suppressed their feelings for over a decade, but unforeseen circumstances finally bring them together in this novel.

There are several flashbacks that provide the history of their individual lives as well as their relationship from the time of the accident.  Boyce comes off as a little rough around the edges compared to Lucas, who is personally more my style.  He didn't always make the best choices as a child/teen, but he has come a long way since then.  He is a very hard worker and is motivated to overcome his past.

Tammara wove a couple of twists into the story that I never would have anticipated.  Both situations added a considerable amount of drama and even danger to what I thought was going to be a "sweet" love story.  I enjoyed seeing these characters grow throughout the book and I felt like the ending was perfect.  I just wish would could have had a little bit more of Lucas ;)

Book Bash 2014!

Have y'all heard of this event called Book Bash?! It is mad, crazy fun!! I remember hearing about after it happened last year. Basically everyone was telling me that I had to go, but that tickets sell out really quickly. One random day I'm bumming around online and see that they're going on sale. At this point, I don't have the hotel, or people to go with, or any sort of plan, but I decided: "I'll go ahead and buy the ticket and figure it out from there!" In the short amount of time it took to make that decision, they sold out -- but then one opened up and I snatched it! I was in!

Needless to say a plan did come together, and that's how I ended up waking up at 2:30 a.m. (you read that right!) to hit the road to Orlando. I had the honor of spending the weekend with these lovely ladies from Owl Always Be Reading and Once Upon a Twilight:

I love these ladies!
We got to the hotel where the event was being held right around 6 a.m. -- and we weren't even the first people in line! Crazy, right?! I love how people love books! Around 10 a.m. the bookstore opened. I was good and only bought one new book, but the highlight was finding these absolutely perfect shirts:
Seriously. Perfection.
The doors opened just after noon and we were off! For those of you who don't know, Book Bash is a one day signing in Orlando that has over 85 amazing authors. (BookBash.net and their Facebook page.) My first stop? Jennifer Armentrout. I had a book of hers that I'd gotten at BEA, but didn't get signed. Luckily, she remedied that:

The day continued in awesomeness from there. It's hard to believe that so much amazingness can happen in 4 hours, but, alas -- it can. And: it did!
Clockwise from top right: Maya Banks, Jennifer Armentrout, Tiffany King, Tammara Webber, Cora Carmack, Nichole Chase, K.A. Tucker, Colleen Hoover, and Katja Millay. Whew!
Next up was a blogger event sponsored by Berkley Romance & Signet Eclipse. I loved the pretty red theme, as well as just having an opportunity to sit down and chat with other bloggers:

There was time for a quick nap after that before we headed to the after party. I definitely had a blast there! It was great to see everyone dancing, drinking and having fun. Not to mention, they played all my jams: the Wobble, the Cupid Shuffle, and more!

I had ridiculous amounts of fun, and if you can make it to Book Bash 2015, I recommend you try! I know I definitely will!

Review: Breakable by Tammara Webber

Breakable (Contours of the Heart, #2)
I would like to thank Tammara and her publisher, Penguin Berkley, for the advanced copy of Breakable.  I absolutely LOVED Easy and couldn't wait to read Lucas's story.

Breakable is told from Lucas's point-of-view with chapters alternated between the past and present.  The "Landon" chapters begin at the time of his Mother's death.  We see what life was like for him through high school up until the time he left for college.  He was struggling with the loss of his mother and did not receive the support he needed from his father or counselors.  We also get to see how his relationship with their long time family friends, the Hellers, developed into the second family he so desperately needed.

The "Lucas" chapters provide his perspective on the events that took place in Easy.  He really struggled with the moral dilemma of dating a student in a class he was tutoring, but he just couldn't find a way of telling her.  She was the first person he connected with since his mother died and he didn't want to scare her away.

This is an exceptional book and one I would highly recommend to all of my friends.  It is New Adult, so the subject matter is more mature than the YA books I usually read.  Easy was actually my introduction into the world of NA and I absolutely love it.  Cora Carmack is another outstanding NA author that I have discovered.  If you have any other recommendations I would love for you to share them with me.

If you haven't read Easy, I suggest that you read it prior to Breakable.  The books are stand alones, but knowing Jacqueline's story prior to Lucas's will definitely be to your benefit.  They are both exceptional characters and I gave both books 5 out of 5 stars of Goodreads.  If you read one of the books you will definitely want to read the other, so start with Easy.

Tammara made a comment that there are a couple of secondary characters she is considering writing about.  At the time I had no idea who she could have been referring to.  Kennedy and Buck were the only real secondary characters in Easy and they were not good options in my opinion.  After reading Breakable, I can now see a few characters with potential.  Boyce is my first choice, but Pearl or Melody could be possibilities as well.  If you have read the series, please share your thoughts on possible characters you think she could be referring it

Friday's Five: Best Kisses

Today, I will tell you my top five best kisses.  HEHE!! This is so much fun, but so had to chose.  I have some many!

1.  Elli and Shea, Taking Shots by Toni Aleo:  I loved their first kiss and every kiss they had in the book. Toni Aleo did an amazing job throughout the book describing their love and kisses!  It was H-O-T and sweet!!!!!!!!!!

2.  Jennifer and Decebel, Just One Drop by Quinn Loftis:  If you know me at all, you know that I love Decebel more than anything!! I only share him with Jennifer because I am a nice person.  However, their first kiss was perfection and every kiss, thereafter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.  Jacqueline and Lucas, Easy by Tammara Webber: Nothing like a hot, tattooed tutor and a sweet, kind student.  Their first kiss perfection and they only got HOTTER!  Oh, did I mention that Lucas is also an artist.

4.  Eden and Kiran, Reckless Magic by Rachel Higginson: You know I had to do it.  Eden and Kiran are my most fave characters and their first kiss was epic (well, to me it was).  With every book, it only got better!!!!

5.  Katy and Daemon, Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout:  I love this series! Katy and Daemon are perfect together, although their relationship is a bit complex.  However, their first was INSANE and then it was just a roller coaster of emotions after that.

Be sure to visit Jacque's Book Nook and Dreaming Dreams to see who they picked for their Best Kisses

Friday Fictional Boyfriend: Lucas Maxfield

Mary's Fictional Boyfriend:

Lucas *sigh* Maxfield! I did not realize I could love a fictional character this much, but I do.

First, he saved Jacqueline from being assaulted.  Second, he is hot.  Third, he is an artist.  Lastly, he is hot with tattoos.

I loved Lucas from the very first time he came onto my Kindle.  You might think "Emo-boy" but he is so much more.  Kind, an artist, smart and loves Jacqueline so much!

I fell in love with him more when I learned about his past.  Then when I thought I could not love him any more the ending of the book came and my heart exploded with love.

If you haven't met Lucas Maxfield then you need to read Easy.  Just remember he is mine.  Well, really he is Jacqueline's but that is okay.

Where You Are by Tammara Webber

Goodreads Summary:

Graham Douglas doesn’t do romantic relationships, but he was knocked for a loop when he met Emma Pierce on the set of his last film. As they grew closer, he did everything in his power to keep from falling for a girl being pursued by superstar Reid Alexander. Now home in New York, his life is once again under control, until Emma appears and shows him how not over her he is.

Emma Pierce is forsaking an up-and-coming Hollywood career to embark on a life she’s only dreamed of—the life of a regular girl. After spending months burying her feelings for the two night-and-day guys who vied for her heart while filming her last movie, a twist of fate puts her in a coffee shop in the middle of Manhattan with the one she still misses.

Brooke Cameron was a fresh-faced Texas girl when she arrived in LA. Now she’s a beach sitcom star turned conceited heiress on the big screen. Having just survived three months on location with her ex—Hollywood’s reigning golden boy—she’s older and wiser and has set her sights on her close friend Graham. The only thing standing in her way is the girl he can’t forget.

Reid Alexander can sum up his life in one word: boring. Between film projects, there’s little going on outside of interviews, photo shoots, and the premiere of the film he finished last fall. The next-to-last thing he expects is to get a second chance with Emma, the girl who rejected him. The last thing he expects is for his still-bitter-ex to be the one to offer it to him on a platter.

Author Recommendation: Mature Young Adults (language, drinking, sexual situations)

Mary's Review:

Reid and Emma are back in book 2.  The film is done and they are ready to go out and promote it.  Reid is still trying to get Emma but Emma and Graham are together now (which makes me happy).  This does not make Brooke happy, since Graham and her are such good friends.

So, Brooke talks Reid into helping her get Graham.  This is turn would get Reid to have Emma.  Brooke and Reid come up with this plan and go to work.

I am still TEAM GRAHAM! Even though I like Reid a little bit more now, Graham still has my heart.  Of course, Tammara Webber threw in another twist or two which kept me wanting more.

This was a great book 2 of the series and would recommend others to read it.

Between the Lines by Tammara Webber

Goodreads Summary:

When Hollywood It Boy, Reid Alexander, arrives on location to shoot his next movie, his goals are the same as always—film another blockbuster hit and enjoy his celebrity status to the fullest while doing so. His costar is a virtual unknown with whom he had blazing hot chemistry during her auditions. The universe is lining up nicely to grant whatever he wants, as usual, until he’s confronted with unexpected obstacles on location like a bitter ex-girlfriend and a rival for the first girl to spark his genuine interest in years.

Emma Pierce just got her big break after more than a decade of filming commercials for grape juice, department stores and tampons, and more recently, bit parts in made-for-TV movies. Nailing the lead role in a wide-release film sent her agent, father and stepmother into raptures, and should have done the same for her. The Problem? Emma is experiencing a building desire to be normal, and starring in a silly, modernized adaptation of one of her favorite novels—opposite the very hot Reid Alexander—isn’t going to advance that aspiration.

Graham Douglas doesn’t fear playing the part of a nerdy dimwit; when it comes to choosing film roles, if it pays, he’ll do it. Besides, his friend Brooke Cameron snatched up the role of the bitchy hot girl and could use his help as a buffer, because her ex is the star. Graham has no problem keeping a handle on the situation, until he finds himself attracted to Reid’s costar, Emma, the girl Reid is pursuing full-throttle with his standard arsenal of charm, good looks and arrogance.

Author recommendation: Mature teens+ (language/drinking/sexual situations)

Mary's Review:

I was first introduced to Tammara Webber when I read her book Easy. I loved that story and then I saw that she wrote this series and I thought that I would give it a chance.

I loved this story. It is much different story line.  Reid is a "Hollywood It Boy" and is a huge celebrity.  He knows that he is a celebrity too!  He lands the lead role of a Jane Austen modern adaption of Pride and Prejudice.  The cast includes: his bitter ex-girlfriend, a couple of his friends, and his co-star is unknown.

Enter Emma, the unknown co-star.  I loved Emma.  I loved her innocence, her trust, and how she can see the good in all.  Then there is Graham *sigh* (I LOVE Graham!)  He was a little bit mysterious but he treated Emma great and was a good friend.  As for Reid, he cared for Emma but he was more of a "player-type".

As the filming continued you can see Reid pursue Emma more, Emma liking Graham, and a twist I did not see at all!  All the characters are great.  Tammara writes them so well together!

It is a great read and would recommend for others.

Easy by Tammara Webber

Goodreads Description:

When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she’s single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, stalked by her ex’s frat brother, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Her econ professor gives her an email address for Landon, the class tutor, who shows her that she’s still the same intelligent girl she’s always been. As Jacqueline becomes interested in more from her tutor than a better grade, his teasing responses make the feeling seem mutual. There’s just one problem—their only interactions are through email.

Meanwhile, a guy in her econ class proves his worth the first night she meets him. Nothing like her popular ex or her brainy tutor, Lucas sits on the back row, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. At a downtown club, he disappears after several dances that leave her on fire. When he asks if he can sketch her, alone in her room, she agrees—hoping for more.

Then Jacqueline discovers a withheld connection between her supportive tutor and her seductive classmate, her ex comes back into the picture, and her stalker escalates his attention by spreading rumors that they’ve hooked up. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Author Recommendation: Mature Young Adults (language, drinking, sexual situations)

Mary's Review:

I put this on to my "to-read" list after I read an amazing review of it on The Autumn Review.  I have to say I am glad that I purchase this book........WOW.............just WOW!!

I am going to say one thing about this book that is a SPOIL!  I know that there is a warning of sexual situations please understand that includes an a attempted rape scene.  You all know that I usually do not read books that have this type of content BUT it is an essential part of the book and I was able to skim that part and not lose the importance of it.

Anyway, back to the good stuff, a hot hot hot Lucas! OH YES! I love me some Lucas! He is mysterious and is always staring at Jacqueline.  Plus, he seems to be there when she really needs him! Then there is Kennedy (Jacqueline ex boyfriend) (ugh), he dumps her after 3 years together, then tries to get back into her good graces (jerk!). But, then there is Landon.  The econ tutor that Jacqueline has not met but emails a lot.  There is some serious flirting that goes on there too!

Then the twist happens! I really did not see the twist but I LIKED IT!

This is a awesome book and a quick read! I am telling you all to buy it now!
